What It All Boils Down To

It was a grey and featureless day yet again today and we really didn't feel like venturing out early doors so instead we settled down to watch another fabulous episode of "Dart Kings" on Sky Documentaries on the arrow throwing champions of the 70's and 80's - featuring the likes of Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson, John Lowe, Cliff Lazarenko, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller and Bobby George and the glorious commentary of Sid Waddell.
Today's episode was on Jocky Wilson and followed his story from how he was brought up in a poverty before ending up in a children's home, working as a miner, only really taking up darts when his pub team was a man short and finding out he had a real aptitude for the sport, to becoming world darts champion in 1982 and, despite his problems with drink and authority, becoming the champion again 7 years later after a titanic struggle with "The Crafty Cockney" himself, Eric Bristow. There was even the iconic clip from Top of The Pops where an image of Jocky appears in the background as Dexys Midnight Runners sing Jackie Wilson Said. What a story!
We did then eventually rouse ourselves and head back to Wrotham village for what we were hoping would be a pint next to the cosy open fire at The George & Dragon only to find that it was locked up with a notice in the window that it has been closed for "safety reasons" and that the pub company that owns it were now looking for new tenants. It was so disappointing as on our last visit we'd received such a lovely welcome form the landlady.
Somewhat downcast we intended to head straight home but decided to give The Moat at Wrotham Heath another try and were much more warmly greeted this occasion so not all was lost.
I must admit I was lacking a bit of inspiration for today's blip image and so I went for another abstract which involved using a tea towel, an old scarf and some bubble wrap (as you do!). Initially I just liked the colours but then, partly due to watching that nostalgic darts documentary earlier and being taken back to the 70's and 80's, it really reminded me of the boiled sweets I used to gobble down as a kid - pear drops, pineapple cubes, bulls eyes, barley sugar, cola cubes, chocolate limes....I could go on!
So a blip that all boils down to darts, a closed pub and an attempt at a boiled sweets simulation! :-)
