Town This Size . . . Topp Twins

Bannockburn To Richmond   809 Km

This is a John Prine song and our Topp Twins do a lovely cover of it.
In a town this size, there's no place to hide
Everywhere you go, you meet someone you know
You can't steal a kiss in a place like this
How the rumours do fly in a town this size . . .

On the l o n g drive home our first stop was the Fairley Pie Shop.  I had pork belly and apple, he had salmon and bacon.  Fairley is on state highway 8 between Christchurch and Queenstown so the passing tourists contribute to the local economy but it is a rural service town of about 960 people.
We were Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud today.  The beautiful blue skies of the past week were hidden under low cloud.  As we drove over the Lindis Pass and onto Omarama we could look and know we had been up those hills and beyond.
There was a cup of tea stop in Christchurch to see our friend Pete who is rennovating his house.  I think we have been watching it develop for at least three years.  The end is in sight and we hope he stops now.  In the eight years we have been in the South Island he has always been rennovating something.  His wife was away being a marshall for The Coast To Coast Race.  We refuelled in Amberley and drove on and on.  We took everything out of the truck and it will be sorted tomorrow.
P.S the photo is by John Allen and there are several other big prints on display up the street .
