Marjorie's ramblings

The last day

We had to be up for breakfast at 0645 and ready to jump into the vehicles at 0730 this morning. The safari vehicles took us to the main reception, about 25 minutes drive away. Then we were reunited with our own vehicle.

Jason wanted to have plenty of time for the long drive to Windhoek, just in case there were any delays.

It was hard to say goodbye to Wolverdans. Our first and our last lodges were the favourites for everyone.

To my great delight, there were flowers blooming by the roadside. The rain clouds we had seen in the distance had opened up in the east.

There were carpets of flowers and I could see aloes in flower.  My main anxiety was that we would not stop to see them.

Eventually, we stopped for a packed lunch. I hardly touched mine because I wanted to see the flowers. It was the middle of the day and the light was very unkind but I perservered.

I am told that these are desert lilies, but I have not identified them yet. They look similar to nerines.

I could not believe that we had been so lucky as to see the start of the flowers blooming and that they had appeared so quickly.

In my extras you can see that the road was quite tricky in places and a couple of amorous beetles above our head at lunchtime. They were large.

Jason had us safely at Galton House Hotel in early afternoon. We were able to shower here and prepare for the long flight to Frankfurt.

This holiday has been a truly amazing experience.
