Gift of oak trees

We went for a lovely expedition today, to visit Steve in his wonderful piece of land. He managed to buy his dream when he retired, finding this area just by the Duddon Mosses. We had a guided tour, of his tree planting area, boggy bit, ancient oak, hillside, bluebell wood and badger sett! If you look very carefully amongst the rocks there you may see Rob!
Steve has been very busy in the two years he’s owned it, putting up a deer fence and mending walls. He has planted more than 200 trees this autumn, and we brought him another 35 oaks today. These have been grown from acorns, from the amazing 800 year old Dalston Oak, at Acorn Bank. They are a nice size now, ready to be planted. We planted the first one, in the corner of the area so we will know where to look.
It’s going to be a great legacy for the future, as all who plant oak trees know they will never see them mature!
