Upheaval
Saturday so we went to Furness Abbey. Theres news that English Heritage may close it over the winter months which would be bad as we'd lose experienced staff with very detail knowledge of the place. Also I'd be concerned that nobody was there to monitor wear and tear or worse .
But for now we can enjoy it . Maybe it was because of the recent publicity but there were quite a few people there today.
We then walked up the path to Abbey House. We were going for a stroll around the grounds but the ground work for the 'wedding garden' is getting worse.
They have dug down deep into the clay and dumper trucks are going to the far end to dump huge mounds of the clay. The weight has gouged out the paths. Huge ruts 2 foot deep and so much mud its impossible to walk along.
I assume that eventually they may do something to rebuild the paths but it's going to take a long while. So far it's taken over a month to get the ground ready.
We ll have to avoid this place for a while.
