Contrasts

Our first full day in Paris and we started with a visit to Notre Dame. We had booked a time slot, but it didn’t appear to matter as people were all being let in anyhow. It was pretty busy, so you don’t really have any opportunity for quiet contemplation, but it was still very impressive. Everything was very light and bright in contrast to how I remember it many years ago. There is still work going on outside on the renovations, but the inside would appear to be more or less complete. Quite an achievement considering it is just over five years since the disastrous fire.

After lunch we went to the Pompidou Centre and spent several hours wandering round the modern and contemporary collection. We could have been there for a week and still not seen everything.  (Extra).
