Black and White Stripes!
A diary shot, really, and at the very edge of the lens's acceptable reach. But I've never seen a Blackcap in the back garden before. I pulled the blind this morning, and glanced out at the still builder-ravaged garden, and thought "that's not a sparrow..."
Sparrows we have a-plenty, and perhaps I've overlooked the Blackcaps before, but standing on top of the hedge at the red of the garden and even against such an unattractive background he was very noticeable.
Looking around the back garden in the gloomy overcast early morning I can see a dozen or more sparrows, a handful of dunnocks, two robins, a pair of collared doves, the inevitable wood pigeon and the constantly moving and quite hard to photograph wren.
Mr Blackbird from yesterday is chasing Mrs Blackbird around the garden. Clearly, despite the weather, spring is springing...
