'Snot S'natogen!

'Snot cough mixture, either, though it tastes better if that's how you think of it. Actually, it's quite a nice flavour, and made by the Benedictine Monks at Buckfast Abbey 'down the road' from us.

Unfortunately, it's rained almost constantly today, but we made a sortie to the Abbey. The local Rotarians were holding an exhibition of Devon artists' work, too, which was worth a look: a mixture of styles and subject-matter, and expertise, but some very pleasing stuff on display. Then to the Abbey - with its wonderful, modern stained glass windows - and thence to their gift shop (which probably enjoys rainy days)!

The words 'tonic wine' reminded me of those adverts in women's magazines in the 1960s for Sanatogen that 'fortifies the over-40s' (!) Is it still made? If so, have they changed the slogan ... to 'stimulates the over-60s'? Or 'sedates the over-70s'?

It says on the label "The name Tonic Wine does not imply health giving or medicinal properties". So, it won't keep the doctor away - which is just as well as we arrived home (after a tasty roast dinner at Dartbridge Inn) to hear the new Dr Who announced: Peter Capaldi; "Who?" being the operative word on my lips. But everyone else had heard of him. He looks the part and sounds as if he'll be great. But there's never been an actor yet that didn't make a good Doctor, IMO. Good luck to him.
