Chateau de Saissac
These castle ruins we visited at Saissac, nearby to St Denis, where we were staying. It had been renovated in the sixteenth century into a very pleasant dwelling, but soon became a fortress again. Now it's hard to imagine people living there.
Wonderful panoramic views from there, looking all the way to the Pyrenees, as too, did our gite. A great thrill to me to see that mountain range in the distance! I couldn't get the line from Hilaire Belloc's 'Tarantella' out of my head ... And the fleas that tease in the High Pyrenees ...
