The Cloudy Carpark....
....of a local superstore.
With the weather as it is here, cloudy with showers of light drizzle, it intrigued me what used to stand - so to speak where the supermarket now stands.
It turned out to be apparently part - long abandoned for at least 30 years, a power station and a tram depot. The power station powered the tram depot. Did it power anything else - I don't know.
The size of the powerstation was, well, see the one extra (I THINK this is it), and I believe this was it, the building with the 'chimneys' on it.
Fascinating history. The land around and by the station and depot was contaminated, so in all fairness it wasn't just a simple answer of let's build on it.
Out of interest, the trams ran a service into warwick, all of which proof of which existed, as you can guess, have gone.
In the extras, you get a glimpse from Google Maps of the car park, and the other extra, (I THINK) the power station, and underneath that a small map from 1926 showing both the tram Station and the 'powerstation'
As far as I know this is all true, but don't quote me on it! I promise now, no more history lessons :-)
Take care all :-)
