Application
After doing my course admin for the week, in the morning I got stuck into programming. I broke off when I received email from a prospective PhD student asking for advice about her application. I know her from her MSc year in 2016-17, and she's very smart, but too modest. She'd be a great recruit due to her industrial experience, so I'll try to convince my rather academic-minded colleagues.
In the afternoon, И and I had a call with three guys from a tech company. It was potentially very interesting since the company is very wealthy, and the initial email said how impressed they were with HiGHS and suggested looking for "synergy". As we discovered today, they are looking to combine HiGHS with a solver of theirs. The kudos would be great, but that doesn't pay the bills, and they don't fund other projects. I've heard this before from another massive tech company to whom we are valuable. Since we're busy on things that people are paying us to develop, I had to say that any collaboration has to be minimal. I don't think they're used to being turned down...
A was at Mum's flat, so I took Django out on a trip that included one stop for groceries at Tesco, and another at Lidl for what I couldn't get. He wasn't amused at being left outside a shop twice!
