Heading Home
Mr K and Miss E went off to rock climbing at the crack of dawn as usual. I had a bit of a lie-in and then got up and dressed because Mr O was coming round to spend the day with Miss L and I wasn’t sure what time. He doesn’t need to see me in my mismatched pyjamas!
Also I had a quick tidy round in the kitchen because he doesn’t need to think we live like pigs!!
A few weeks ago Miss E emailed Waterstones to see if she could have her work experience placement there in July. They emailed back the other day and asked if she could come to an interview this morning at 10.30.
She was thrilled but nervous!
I said I was sure it was a formality to check she wasn’t a grunting, illiterate drug addict.
Last night as we were watching Superstore I suddenly thought to ask her if she knew how to shake hands properly. She did not!
“Why would I need to shake anybody’s hand?” she asked.
Sigh.
Mr K and I tried to demonstrate but inexplicably made a hash of it. Much eye rolling from Miss E!! She shook our hands one by one and was fine. Better than mum and dad clearly!!
And this morning I messaged to say make sure she knows the man’s name so she could confidently say to the person at the desk “I’ve got an interview with Mr X at 1030” rather than not knowing quite what to say.
She’s not an idiot and I’m sure she’d have been fine but it’s her first proper interview and I wanted to make it easier!
She left rock climbing half an hour early, got changed and they headed over to Waterstones.
Turns out it wasn’t a formality at all. Twenty three candidates for three places. Eek!
She felt it went well. She was happy with her answers and felt she couldn’t have done any better which is brilliant.
And, best of all, after her interview, which had been at a table in the cafe bit, a woman came over and said she hoped Miss E wouldn’t think she was weird but she wanted to say she’d overheard the interview and was very impressed. She said Miss E was articulate, engaging, passionate about books and just all round fabulous really!!!!
It made me cry when she told me that - because I’m an over emotional mum! And I said whatever happens, she did brilliantly and should be very proud of herself.
Fingers crossed she gets a place.
I headed to Bicester in the afternoon to take some clothes back to the charity warehouse which were damaged. I bought a few more things and then headed to my mum and dads for a cup of tea.
Then it was back to cook dinner.
I did spicy chicken wings for Miss L and Mr O. He came down after eating them just to tell me how delicious they were and could I give him the recipe.
Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!
