Rothko

I haven't been to Tate Modern in years and today I went thinking there was a Paul Klee exhibition. Turns out I'd been reading about future exhibitions - the Klee exhibition isn't until October. This is just the sort of muddle I've been getting myself into a lot lately. Well I've been quite distracted. Anyway I had a good mooch around the permanent collections. This room is one I always make a point of going to - Mark Rothko's Seagram murals. Rothko wanted these displayed in a confined, muted space. He wanted to evoke a contemplative feeling. I always find this room very calming at first. If you sit there long enough though the feeling of calm turns to something else, something dark and unsettling. I didn't hang around too long today!
