The footballing week / half term break continues.
Car hired and off down the A702 / M74 and M6 and into - Coventry.
Ahead of CCFC v QPR in the EFL, we took a brief wander about the town centre before heading up to the snappily titled Coventry Building Society Arena. Used to be Highfield Road back when I were a lad.
(I had previously been to see the Sky Blues on their quest for immortality in 1987 when their 3rd round opponents were Bolton (3-0 to Cov that day). Me and a bunch of boys from college in Derby had gone to down to cheer on the Trotters back in the day)
The Elephant Building is a thing of beauty; such a shame to see it unloved and unused. Then chicken strips, chips and off to see Frank Lampard's Coventry City. Sitting 6th, and playing QPR who are neither play off contenders nor relegation candidates, a home win looked assured. Except, there was very little action in the first half bar a couple of outstanding saves; one by each keeper.
2nd half proved slightly more entertaining, not least because we relocated to the noisy corner and got involved with the chants etc.
In the dying moments of the game, Coventry finally found a winner and the place erupted / heaved a huge sigh of relief.
Then the small matter of the 14 miles to the Travelodge and checking in ahead of a well earned sleep. Except not...
Stay tuned, dear reader....
