Happy birthday to me! True to tradition we did not go out to a restaurant -- S cooked a delicious lunch instead. Aperos with jamón and piquillo peppers stuffed with brandade, then the best fillet steak from les Halles served with new-season broad beans and bacon, a gratin dauphinois, and a bottle of excellent Corbières from Caraguilhes. Then cheese and biscuits, and tarte tatin courtesy of M Picard. After lounging about for a while to digest, I went for a quick blip walk. I was glad I was alone as I was hooting with laughter at a misanthropic New Zealander on Strangers on a Bench (episode 16). Tom was evidently enjoying the conversation, although it was a bit sad too.

In the evening we went to Capendu to see Zoom Avant. I chose this on the basis of having enjoyed the same author's Zaï Zaï Zaï Zaï , about a comic strip author caught in a supermarket without his loyalty card. The show this evening was amusing, and the three actors were brilliant at constructing different scenes out of large boxes and swiftly changing costumes, voices, and attitudes. But it was basically a highlights reel of very short scenes extracted from several graphic novels, including Zaï Zaï Zaï Zaï, so it didn't feel very coherent. Anyway, it was only an hour long, and it was good to go to the theatre. Video teaser here.
