Snowy Cardinal
The day started gloomy and eventually morphed into a light snow which was my call to get out in the hide for a bit. Snow brings lots of birds to our feeders and water so I knew I'd have my pick of shots, and all from less than 12 feet. Yep, I'm kind of spoiled in that regard. In fairness, the snow was just enough that shooting over 20 feet would have resulted in soft images, which isn't always a bad thing but not what I wanted today.
Just for fun, I am putting a shot from early this week of a female Northern Cardinal in the desert. There are subtle differences in the subspecies found in south Texas compared to our subspecies.
Hubs and I ran some errands today which included stopping at a local farm for eggs. They had a sign asking that people take only one carton which I thought was a reasonable ask under the current egg shortage. Most of the local farms charge $5 per dozen although some go as high as $7. I'm happy to pay a little extra for fresh eggs as they taste so much better than anything I can find at the grocery stores.
We are tucked in for the day now, waiting to see how much snow eventually comes. The latest prediction was only 1-3 inches which is fine. Honestly, we have so much ice right now that it would be okay if we got some snow cover just to make walking easier.
Off to have a cup of hot tea and warm myself up.
