Big Day Out
Today we had a round trip of 360km or 5 hours driving from Wānaka to Jackson’s Bay on the West Coast and back.
We had planned this day for some time, wanting to walk the Smooth Water Track- and Jill gained permission to take Frida. She had to stay on a lead as there are many kiwi in the bush.
I found some of the track pretty tough on my knees, so didn’t quite achieve our goal, but still had a wonderful walk.
We then walked a very short walk to the beach (main photo), and noted the SEVEN helicopters that flew in some American tourists from Queenstown to the little caravan at Jackson’s Bay, which has a population of around 39 people! It has a little caravan there that sells seafood, and this group flew in for fish and chips! A very expensive lunch!
We visited 2 different beaches - Jill in the main one, and Frida and I in the extra. Then another hours walk to Lake Ellery before starting the journey home.
Frida is now sound asleep after having to look out for us! I don’t think we will be far behind her.
A fabulous day.
