Before the storm
Another day of frittering away time what I'm telling myself is practice for retirement. I had a good night's sleep and was up before 7. I did some 'work' editing a document to send to the Board and a few emails. the I went down a rabbit hole of reconsidering the future of the apartment - figures and spreadsheets and averages and trying to guess the answers to the 'what ifs. I eventually came to the conclusion that for piece of mind another year is worth it and I can get things sorted here before I leave. that will give me work to do in my last 2 weeks!
The family were out at a birthday party today. It was also #1 son and WH's wedding banquet anniversary. They have 2 anniversaries a year but don't really celebrate either. Left to my own devices I had avocado on toast for breakfast then eventually after 2 decided I should go out for lunch. I went to Muska the Indian at the Verve Shops and had dhosa, beer and ice cream and very good it was too.
I'd done laundry this morning and started the Bali packing before lunch so once back went for a swim but I could already see the clouds were building up and there was some thunder before it got very dark and very windy. Abandoned the pool to come back upstairs and watch the rain and the spectacular lightning with the thunder crashing overhead. Also started another photobook, train journeys '23 and '24.
I dragged myself away from that to go next door. Turned out they'd been late for the party. WH told me it started at 12, certainly early, but she'd obviously forgotten as they went for 2. I did wonder why #1 son was replying to my emails when I thought he was at a party. It was his friend's son so I don't think he was a happy bunny. After wishing the girls a good rentree tomorrow I left them ironing school shirts and came back to make omelette with cheese and mushrooms, accompanied by beer and ice cream.. Definite theme there.
Of course there was more packing and repacking. I am now worried about my backpack. I was ok with it last time but i think technically it's too big. Hopefully Air Asia won't mind.
Watched some of 'Miss Austen' which I feel needs more concentration than I have. Rose Leslie is in it. I remember picking #3 son up from Lickleyhead Castle once but I don't think he was visiting her family.
Now got dishes to wash before heading to bed and setting the alarm for an early start tomorrow.
