More pig

We woke to the snow having gone but with freezing rain very visible through the window.   After tea in the room we went out to the new Soho House in Ludlow St in East Village to meet Ian and have a croissant and coffee.  He then joined us at a nearby taco restaurant called Carnitas Ramirez which had tacos made from every different cut of pork you could imagine and  some you couldn’t.  (V took a good pic of the chart of cuts but he’s gone out to source a breakfast bagel so I’ll add it in later). It was great fun and actually all very delicious.  The rain was lashing down after lunch and we parted company from Ian who was going home and set off for The Met.  Given the weather there was a huge queue to get in and we lingered a bit by Greek urns before going to see the Casper David Friedrich exhibition.   Quite dull and heavy, a direct contemporary of Turner who just made you miss Turner. His best known painting is in the extras. Came out and looked at some beautiful Rodin (again, see extras) before trying to buy a nice umbrella but they’ve broken the famous Met Store into small satellite stores which are just impossible to find and each have very limited stock.  Back to the Cafe Sabarsky for tea and torte and happily they had my lost sunglasses, neatly filed, along with my phone number in their lost property ledger.  Whether they were ever going to call me!

Tea at the hotel and then we went out to meet V’s cousin Eric and his wife at a lively Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon Social.
