Goodbye to Rusty

Sad to say we won’t be seeing Rusty again for some time.

Squirrel pox has been identified in our area and we have all been advised to remove all bird feeders for three weeks and disinfectant them.

Grey squirrels carry the virus but it doesn’t kill them and we are on the borderline where greys were prevalent and now reds are taking  over.
Some days we get both in the garden.

Tomorrow our local Wildlife squirrel trapper will be putting up posters advising us to keep an eye out for sick squirrels.

It will contain the following information:
Please take the following immediate actions:
• Take in all wildlife feeders for the next 3 weeks, and thoroughly clean
with an anti-viral solution such as Virkon S: tinyurl.com/35re8rdz
• Take photos of and report sightings of sick or dead red squirrels to
squirrels@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk
• Record these and all other sightings on our website at
scottishsquirrels.org.uk
• Post dead red squirrel carcasses found for post-mortem analysis:

• Call the SSPCA on 03000 999 999 if you spot a sick/ lethargic red squirrel.
