I Find Abstracts in Strange Places
Well, I find abstracts in strange places,
Where the laundry spins and the fabric softener chases my blues away,
But I'll be okay. . . .
I have to admit that winter time poses its challenges for the local photographer. At least for the outdoorsy kind, who likes to WALK places and LOOK at things. Such as myself, for instance.
The latest round or two of snow and sleet and ice have made every single driveway treacherous. There is still ice on the side roads, in the shade of every tree. "Watch your step" doesn't even come close to being good enough advice. Yeah, the intention is there, but the doing? Not so much.
I wasn't going to tell you, but I fell on the front steps one day last week. Or rather, I mostly just sat down HARD. There's one step in the middle that's a leaner, and we put a grippy step tread on top of it to help. But on the one day that warmed up a bit, whoop! away it slid when I stepped on it. DOWN went the girl.
Fortunately, I am well padded in strategic areas, and I do love to sit, but not often so surprisingly fast as I did it then. That left knee that's still been giving me grief from time to time? I landed partly on that, too. (Of course!) And weirdly enough, falling on it sort of made it feel better, but only for a day or two.
Since then, it snowed and sleeted and freezing rained and iced, and then it all froze solid. My husband bolted the grippy tread fast to the middle stair step so that it can't slide anymore. So there's a lasting improvement. But the driveway? It's a lost cause. Soon, we'll be turning it into a skating rink. (You only THINK I'm kidding!)
This is a long, roundabout way of saying: hey, it's dangerous out there! Yes, I am still going outdoors every day for a (careful) walk. I get fresh air, I get exercise, I watch my step, I take pictures. However, sometimes, in winter, the safest photos are found - and made - INSIDE the house. :-)
This was not a particularly great day for photos, and when I reviewed my photo set at day's end, I was struck by how mediocre every single one of them seemed. Oh, a rare case of Blipper's Day-End Despair set in! Then I remembered a day last week, doing laundry, when I noticed how cool the interior of the dryer looked. I had snapped a few test photos. Hmm.
So on this evening, I took a flashing LED light downstairs, placed it inside the dryer, and as the colors spun, I took pictures of the interior. I zipped up the color some, and above is one of my favorite results. Please enjoy this winter abstract, found in unexpected places!
