Grumpy Old Man

Wildlife day

Another rather dull, chilly day - though we did get a few flashes of sunshine later on.  Stayed inside this morning doing various things - I realised that a number of books left to me after the death of my Great-aunt back in 1990 hadn’t been put on my database, so I did some of that. I regret not taking a note of the 600 or so books that I took to the charity shops when we moved here - I should have recorded that. Now if I want to find a book I can’t tell if I still have it! I suppose I could go through the whole collection and check that they’re all recorded, but maybe not - I must have more than 2,500 of them!

My two little plants of Rhabdothamnus solandri - I Blipped a flower on Sunday - are beginning to put out tiny new leaves, so I potted them up very slightly, just a touch. I tried to save a couple of succulents which have been damaged in the cold greenhouse - maybe too late. It’s always difficult to know how much frost they can take.

While I was out there I spotted one of our local squirrels in the nearby tree, so put a few hazelnuts out on the edge of the deck railing. He - or she - soon returned and allowed me to come quite close, only six or seven feet away, and take a few pictures - my Blip and one of the extras today. The second extra was taken through the window - a collared dove underneath the bird table.

Having got out of the house I decided to go for a brief walk, so set off round the houses.  I stopped for a chat with a neighbour who was working in his garage - I find it funny that he always rides an electric bike, though his surname is Carr!
