Memories
Not a good photo, but it marks the spot. It was Sue's funeral today. A long day starting with a church service at 10 a.m., then off to the crematorium in Carcassonne, then back to the village for a wake. The service in the church was unfortunately conducted by a mumbling priest; he did everything in two languages, but those of us at the back could barely hear half of what he said. Lucy saved the day with her singing at the beginning (Wonderful Life) and end (La Mer). It was the crematorium that broke me; as we came in, there was a slideshow being projected featuring Sue and Russ having a great time doing what they did best ... socialising. And it really was the final goodbye.
At the wake people were asked to bring any photos they had, so here is the display. People enjoyed looking at it and reminiscing about many happy occasions. Home at 7 pm, in need of a rest.
Yesterday S had typeset and printed the order of service, and in the evening Sue's daughter N invited us to dinner at the pizzeria in Fabrezan with friends and family -- there were 18 of us altogether. We had a good time, though it still felt odd doing it without Sue. It's a year to the day since I went with her to her first hospital appointment in Narbonne.
