A short walk
Thanks for all the love for yesterday's lucky butterfly blip! A more mundane one today, taken on the Monday walk. There were only five of us today, and we just did a quick 4 km, 25 m climbing, 1 hour. The blossom is busting out all over now.
We finished reading The Big Sleep last night. This was an impulse Christmas present for me from S. Not something it would ever have occurred to me to buy. Well, we absolutely loved it. Not that bothered about the plot; unexpectedly it was the vivid writing, sassy dialogue, and over the top metaphors that made it for us. Sample: "The General spoke again, slowly, using his strength as carefully as an out-of-work showgirl uses her last good pair of stockings."
So, this evening we streamed the film. We definitely understood the plot far better than ever before, and a lot of the dialogue comes straight from the novel. But frankly we were disappointed at the changed ending, much less satisfying and actually less visually dramatic than the book. The price to pay for steamy Bogart-Bacall romance :) I'll certainly be reading more Chandler.
