The Most Imposing House of Bressay
A gale blowing all day, picking up as the day went on. Bright spells this morning, more cloud in the afternoon, then rain late evening.
Another day working with Cliffy on the mini essykert. A morning around Bressay on plastic recycling waste, then an afternoon doing litter bins around Lerwick. Walkies with Sammy after work. Another shift in the shop this evening, fairly quiet. Feet up before bed.
Gardie House was once described as "The most imposing house of Bressay", and I'm sure it still is. Built for Magnus Henderson in 1724, later additions in 1820, then again in 1905. I don't know much of the history of the house, but there is plenty written about it I'd need to read up on. It sits in a large walled garden, with it's own pier and small harbour. The walls make it hard to get a good photo of the estate, maybe on a less windy day, I could attempt a better view. It's still occupied by a local family, Lord Lieutenant John Scott. King Charles (then prince) and princess Diana stayed here in the mid 1980s. It really would be great to see inside, I'd hope it's as grand as the old outside walls. Taken at Gardie House, Bressay.
