Girls in town
We’ve had a full on fun day in Leeds. Got the train in just after 9.00 am so we had plenty of time to get to the Phoenix Theatre for the 11.00 am performance of Northern Ballet’s ‘Hansel and Gretel’ with time to participate in the creative crafts beforehand.
This was undoubtedly the highlight of the day, and the girls chose it as the best thing they’d done today. Before the performance they made crowns and binoculars - extra- as the production features birdwatchers in the forest. A twist on the usual tale. It is set in modern times and the children meet a rubbish monster in the woods (quite the highlight - a dancing heap of cans and plastic bottles) So an eco story about keeping the forest free of rubbish, a bit like Ariel in the Little Mermaid, we saw at Bristol Old Vic at Christmas, saving the oceans from oil.
It was raining when we left the theatre and we went straight for lunch at Pizza Express. Not something I often have but they do good Gluten Free for Eda and I enjoyed my extra thin and crispy with blue cheese, rocket and Parma ham!
As we were in town we decided to go to the nearby Leeds museum to see the Miffy exhibition celebrating 70 years since the creation of the children’s literature rabbit. This is where I took my blip. Again there were activities for the girls, masks and ears to make and more. Here we were waiting in the queue so it was a good chance to get all three of my girls having fun.
There is currently a huge fair in Millenium Square and some of the rides looked and sounded horrendous! Back outside the Art Gallery there is a the usual ferris wheel but we found a bit gentler ride for the girls before heading back to the get the train home.
We were all pooped!
In the extra Jude is wearing a new cardigan I’ve knitted. I had the wool and have also had the pattern for ages, it is in the biggest size. Luckily she loves it - well it is pink and has sparkly buttons!
I bought both girls a Miffy cuddly toy, I now have orders for a T shirt for Eda’s and a dress for Jude’s!
