A splash of crimson
I went into Woking this afternoon to drop a form off at the County Council offices. These particular offices are located on the road that leads out of Woking in the direction, eventually, of Guildford. The traffic was horrendous with tailbacks on all of the approach roads due to road closures, including the one ahead of me in this photo (I was parked when I took it). It's the main road around the town centre and it is closed - yet again - because cladding on a new building blows off at the merest hint of wind endangering passing motorists and pedestrians below. The photo also shows an apartment block that is not that old but has been clad in white plastic sheeting for months due, I assume, to issues with its cladding. Not good either way for the occupants. I didn't notice the crimson red covering on the side of the building to the left of the picture when I took it. That marks the end of a row of former shops demolished to make way for another speculative residential development that, years later, has still to start let alone materialise. So, this end of Woking is something of an urban wasteland caused by a Council pursuing the wrong priorities, cheapskate builders and a developer sitting on a brownfield site until there is an upturn in its value. That could be some while!
