Lenna (with Lenna)

Me, standing next to a painting of Lenna Glackens (daughter of William Glackens). He was an American Impressionist & my great uncle.

I am a bit behind with adding photos, as we (my sister, my husband and me) are preparing for my mom to reside in Assisted Living with Memory Care. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's on Feb 4th and has recently had a PET scan. We are waiting to have a meeting with the Neurologist to discuss the results.

As some of you may know, going through this is a momentous task, filled with stress and emotions. After touring places and deciding on the best one, there is so much paperwork to do, furniture to buy... all being done while we navigate my mother with her illness... plus, add onto this, the fact that mom does not want to leave her home. She is 90, and it has come to the point where she simply is not able to live on her own. We have tried earlier this year hiring help so she could remain at home, but my mom refused to work with them, sometimes not opening the door. So, we are preparing the move while getting help from the professionals involved to be able to bring mom to a place where she can get the help she needs.

Anyway... Today is my birthday (68!!). I had a window of time on the 19th-20th to make the 3-1/2 hour trip with Steve to FT Lauderdale, meet a friend of ours who lives there, celebrate my birthday and go to the NSU Museum of ART to view "The House of Glackens." Even though going at this time was not without stress, to see the exhibit and dine out in the evening with my husband was wonderful. See the extra photo for a description of the exhibit.

William Glackens, my Great Uncle, is an American Impressionist of  notoriety. The NSU Art Museum includes a 'Glackens Wing' and the museum holds over 500 pieces of his art, donated by his son Ira, my second cousin, once removed. I am named after William Glackens' and Edith Dimock's daughter Lenna. Edith Dimock was the sister of my Grandfather, Stanley Dimock!!

William Glackens was an American realist paper and one of the founders of the Ashcan School. To see/read more about him and his art, visit the page I have curated on my website: William Glackens.
