A Meandering Life...

MMC2025 :: Day 23 :: Queen Charlotte

Mono Month Challenge 2025

Queen Charlotte Drive, Track and Sound.

My main Blip shows another side of Picton, the port for the logging industry, Shakespeares Bay. These would make a lot of tooth picks! This is the view the visitors arriving by cruise ships see because this is where the cruise ships have to berth. The passengers then get bussed into town.

Postcards: The journey from Picton to Havelock along the Queen Charlotte Drive is amazing, so many twists and turns, ups and downs I'm not surprised a wreak of a car has been placed near the beginning at Picton as a warning. One postcard has three images of the inlet which forms this part of the Sound. It is called Grove Arm and the top image is looking over Ngakuta Bay. The middle is from Anakiwa and the Botton overlooking Havelock which is on Pelorus Sound.

The other postcard is showing images taken at Anakiwa where one end of the Queen Charlotte Track starts, Ship Cove being the other end. I'm sure some of my journal followers have done the track, I'd be interested as to how long it took. For a slightly shorter route, although not as established there is the Picton-Havelock Link Track.

We have had another wonderful day. We did pop down to Blenheim again for breakfast as we needed to kill some time between accommodation plus we have never given it much attention before and there are things we like about the town. The rest of the day was spent in Havelock. Tomorrow we will join the local Postie on their rounds...
