At home: Portrait blip off!
Fellow blipper andrewhiggins and I had a portrait 'blip off' this afternoon. As some of you know, I have been struggling with 'sharpness envy' for a while now. The smaller, less sharp finish on some of my portraits is a result of the small sensor in my little Lumix LX 5. The dependable Lumix is a quick draw camera. Its lived and survived in my overalls, back pocket, rucksack and in pockets alongside handfuls of straw and bits of horse feed. Its bumped along on my log deliveries, survived mud and dust at Glastonbury and been juggled around sticky children's fingers. Nothing quite beats it.
Andrew has come up with an in between solution. There would be little point in buying a brand new camera. Its a miracle the Lumix has survived this far! Andrew tentatively produced his old Lumix GX1. A larger sensor, and better image quality.. I showed willing and bought a protective crumpler bag for it...I think that's helped...
My portrait of Andrew and his tentative expression as I try out my new camera. I can see he's still worried about its future life in my hands.....worry not Andrew..I really won't take it on the log run with me this year! X
