Dark and Light
I had forgotten how it feels to be in a Thin Place. An exceptional day in York with the British Pilgrimage Trust led by Guy Haywood, who established the Trust and when he’s not doing pilgrimage things is half of musical double act Bounder and Cad.
I lost count of the number of churches and points of interest we visited, with time for short reflection and early music vocal interludes provided by Guy. The blip is Clifford’s Tower, the site of a 12th century antisemitic massacre.
We finished the pilgrimage at the Minster with a session led by Maggie McLean, one of the first women to be ordained in 1994. Most of us stayed for Evensong and afterwards enjoyed the Colour and Light show where the south transept was lit up with animals from York’s past and present, extra.
A thought provoking and a somewhat belief shifting day.
