Birds at Sculthorpe
Full sun was forecast for today, so I drove over to Sculthorpe Moor to see how the birds were doing. In reality, there was a lot of cloud around with patchy sun until mid afternoon when the cloud cleared. There was also a lot of standing water around given the wet month, but it wasn't covering the main boardwalks. We ended up with 46mm of rain in Feb, mostly in the second half of the month. The birds were singing well and lots to see, but no kingfisher unfortunately. I liked this photo of a female chaffinch with the buds (?) emerging on the branch. I've also added a collage to Extras of a blue tit, long tailed tit, male and female chaffinches, reed bunting and marsh tit. I also saw marsh harriers and red kites. It was lovely watching the birds and quite quiet still. This afternoon I booked on to my annual dawn chorus walk there on 3rd May. Soon I'll be driving over to Cromer to see how many of the planets in the 'planet parade' I can see. Two can only be seen through a telescope, but I'm hoping I can see at least 4 with the help of my Stellarium app.
