Bitter cress
Of all the plants that herald Spring I think the diminutive Bittercress is my favourite. It comes up anywhere there's a space of open earth, whatever the weather. It is so dainty, a minature masterpiece with its rosette of tiny leaves. First prize for effort and beauty and cheering jaded tastebuds. It may be small but every bit of its foliage packs a peppery punch. Garden foraging, which I popped into my lunch-time cheese sandwich.
