Building Sn3 and N Worlds

New Sn3 Layout sketch-for model folks

This poor photograph (sorry blippers) is of my current thoughts about a new expanded Sn3 train layout.  My old CAD system no longer can run with the newer operating system so it is back to pencil and triangles and scale ruler.  Fun.  The paper is held in a paper work board I bought in 1963 when I started Architecture at the University of Illinois.  Lasted better than me!

Sorry some of the notes are blurry but you get the idea.  The walls are shown to accurate measures etc.  This was the room for my N Scale layout -which will be gone soon.  However, I will use the word support system I did for the N scale and they are just right for the new layout.  On top of the wood support there will be two 2" styrofoam sheets and a 1" sheet on the top.  Same idea on my old Sn3 layout and it works really well for me.

The idea is that the top leg will be Dolores CO, the leg on the left will be Mancos CO, and the bottom leg will be the Rio Grand Southern locomotive area just west of Durango.  There will be a turn table on that leg to turn locos.  There will be a lift out bridge (right side of the plan) so that I can have trains from the north like Rico and it would sneak out of Durango onto the bridge and enter Dolores CO from the north and on to Mancos.

All of the buildings, trains, trees, people, vehicles etc will quickly find places on the new layout.  I will miss my N Scale layout but this one has been going in my head for a long time - and as I mentioned it is time to back out of the small stuff.  .
