Bus Challenge No 243 (In reverse!)

Avebury Stone Circle

“Avebury Henge dates from around 4,600 years ago. The bank and ditch are almost a mile in circumference, and the ditch was originally around nine metres deep... The outer stone circle is the largest prehistoric circle of standing stones in the world and there are the remains of two other smaller stone circles within it.” National Trust

With Little E and Little I off at school and their dad on a work trip, E and I drove the short distance from Devizes to Avebury. In the shade the frost was still on the ground but another stunning day, not a cloud in the sky, though still quite muddy underfoot as we walked around the stone circle. From there we had a wander around the village that lies within the stone circle, then a stroll around the gardens of the early-16th-century Manor House, before an early alfresco lunch in the sun. (Views of the stone circle, Manor House and that amazing blue sky in extras).

Back in Devizes I took the bus back to Bath, and then a second bus home. I’ve never been so close to falling asleep on a bus before! Once home it was time to start on the jobs list for the next trip. An early night beckons...
