Prince of Wales Bridge from Severn Beach
A full on day from breakfast with our friend and most knowledgeable tour guide at 8.30am until we returned to the hotel at 8.30pm.
In between those times we spent several hours in the really rather excellent Aerospace Bristol museum at Filton which culminated in visiting the Concorde hanger housing the plane which made the last ever Concorde flight from Heathrow to Filton in November 2003. Extra 1.
From there we went on an odyssey to Wales crossing the estuary on the M4, Prince of Wales bridge coming back over the older first Severn crossing now the M48. Between those two crossings we called in at the eccentric, small but lovely Tunnel Museum at Sudbrook to read all about the building of the Severn railway tunnel which has always suffered from flooding by an underground spring. Nearby is a fabulous view of the Prince of Wales bridge. Extra 2.
Next destination was Severn Beach where we caught the GWR train to Bristol Temple Meads following the River Avon for much of the way. Rather tongue in cheek this short line has been nominated as one of the Great Train Journeys of the World. And it only cost £2.10 return with a senior railcard for a 45 minute journey.
Another Wetherspoons meal was had before catching the train back to Severn Beach where we peered over the seawall to marvel at the Prince of Wales bridge at night which made the main shot for today’s blip.
I’m sorry that there isn’t much time to visit your journals. Thank you for all your comments on yesterday’s blip. We have another full day planned tomorrow in Bristol.
