I got a steam generator iron on Facebook marketplace, and didn’t realise it had a scorched sole plate.
Used my paracetomol trick ( having it on a low heat, and using a paracetomol tablet held in tweezers rubbed lightly over it to clean it) Takes a while, but it now pretty good.

I always use a Teflon cover, but this saves me worrying about ‘brown gunk’ spurting out
