Broken lives

We had a blip outing today to the Old Prison in Northleach to an exhibition by the feminist ceramic artist Claudia Clare.  Such wonderful work !  Her sister explained the items in the display to us and the nature of her work exploring the treatment of women who find their lives going in totally the wrong direction and seek ways out of the situation they find themselves in.  This wonderfully decorated pot which has been fired and decorated several times to create this level of finish, tells the story of a young woman who found herself homeless in London and her efforts to get away from that life.  This pot has also been deliberately broken and put back together as a symbol of the woman's pain and escape.  The pot was created in layers and the inside and outside were decorated as the pot grew.  You can see some of the inside decor through the hole outlined in gold in this shot.

All the pieces we saw today were amazing and some of the profits always go to a charity supporting women like this.  Fitzbilly has more details and StevenG was at the Blipmeet too.  An exceptional visit.
