Daylight

It may seem odd to be posting a picture of a jigsaw on a lovely, warm, sunny day. Surely jigsaws are for cold winter’s days when one is stuck indoors. Maybe!

This puzzle is one of my favourites - I have made it several times. I like the painting itself. I like putting together the water and the boats and then building the skyline. Of course one then gets to the sky . . . I had forgotten how much there is of it. Several times this week I have looked at it, thought it was impossible and that I might as well abandon it.

This morning we went to Orton Market. We haven’t been for a while and it seemed that several of the usual stalls were absent. The market is just emerging from the winter and we are assured it will soon be in full swing. Anyway we bought a few things and had some interesting conversations.

When I got back I put some washing in and, whilst I was waiting for it to finish, I looked at the jigsaw. It was astonishing - it was as if someone had been in and repainted the sky during the night. In the bright daylight I could appreciate the subtle textures of the paint colour. I soon got on with it.

Daylight is everything.
