Heartwood and Rot

This is the end of a post that has been used for about 15 years to support an apple tree we planted. The only thin holding it in place was the small cylinder of heartwood. I liked the way the rest of the post had rotted, with a slug and wood louse in there as well. The only other part not rotted was the outside, which would have had a preservative treatment.

The support has now been reused, but I cut the rotten end off first. And then blipped it.
