Shakespearean

Quick Backblip.

Made it to Switzerland after meeting lots of storks at a French Service Station. Loads of these birds just wandering around and scrounging food from tables. Very odd.

It was my first time ever in France and all I can tell you is most of it is behind trees.

Anyway, back to Switzerland.

We arrived in Lauterbrunnen after 6 hours in the car in 30 degree heat. I was not the most biddable of bunnies. However, we got our train tickets for Wengen (you can't get there by car) and boarded the train.

Swiss Railways have a reputation for punctuality and reliability that is probably unmatched in Europe. So it was not totally a suprise when the first train I got in broke down.

On the side of a very steep mountain.

And not a slow trundle to a halt break down. No. This was a loud CLANK-CLANK-SHUDDER-JOLT followed by a surprise backwards lurch like we were about to roll back down the mountain...

Anyway, the driver got out of the front of the train, ran to the back, tinkered a bit and after about 5 nerve wracking minutes, we shuddered our way into Wengen.

And were greeted by an enormous clap of thunder, followed by lightning and torrential rain.

As an example of quasi-Shakespearean foreshadowing, it doesn't get much more ill-starred than that.

Bring on the two headed eagle...
