The Bridge on the River Kwai
We joined our tour group in Bangkok this morning, then drive west to the River Kwai. This is the bridge built in 1942 by Allied prisoners of war of the Japanese on the notorious Thai-Burma Railway. In 1944 it was largely destroyed by the Allies and later re-built by the Thais. It’s not the bridge shown in the 1957 film, which was made in Sri Lanka and featured a bridge built for the film.
