The Tension

Dear O'H dear, Lovely Tea Jenny and The Mini Princesses,

Mary Doll had a hospital appointment today for a scan.

Victor and I were in the waiting area and he started looking around and telling me about the complexities in the design and construction of hospitals.

He did tell a story from when he was a young engineer (which he found really funny) about a time that a tension cable came free in an operating theatre and broke through the wall. During an operation.

“Erm isn’t that really dangerous?”

“Oh yes, one of those things could kill someone if they were hit by it,” he chortled.

But now I know that concrete is strong in compression and weak in tension and that it can be prestressed.
