Check crochet

This morning was the first of two workshops in creating check crochet. The idea seems to be that you firstly create a net of crochet with gaps in it and you then weave a second layer of crochet through the gaps. I'm still creating the net in a practice piece (pattern above) and will then create a net using a pattern of my choice, taken from a book of tartan crochet patterns. There's a second session in a few weeks' time where I will be taught how to do the second layer. It's just me doing the workshops, it's good of A to go ahead, but she says she enjoys it.
