Relief
Ridiculous scenes today at the office.
Today we were interviewing for a key role in my team. One of the candidates is a, let’s say, favoured internal individual shoehorned into the shortlist after it had been selected. Favoured by certain elements of the organisation keen to maintain a status quo. A status quo of dubious integrity. I haven’t been able to make positive changes and it’s a source of frustration.
The candidate was clearly reading his answers so he had been fed the questions beforehand. It’s idiotic sitting there pretending to make legitimate notes on a candidate who is speed-reading and stumbling over some AI generated answers. My relief was high when other panellists voiced their concerns. ‘Is he reading a text?’, one WhatsApped me halfway through.
I was further relieved when my colleagues rated the candidate less strongly overall. Perhaps the rapid-fire robotic reading schtick hadn’t come across as very genuine.
Integrity - 1
Artificial Intelligence - 0
The contents of my freezer provided a different form of relief in the evening.
