Exploring

It’s been a grey day with a persistent northerly wind.

Andy has been in a golf competition so I decided to take Merlin back to Stansted where we walked yesterday, so we could explore some new trails. We had a fun time walking through woodlands with big, tall, trees including some western red cedar. As we walked we moved into more open countryside and followed an old byway which leads to the Racton Monument. We didn’t go as far as the monument but instead cut back to the Stansted Estate where we did a circular route back to our starting point. We’ll have to walk to the monument another day - although it does have a reputation for being haunted!

I didn’t sow any more seeds today as it didn’t feel at all enticing to be in the cold windy garden this afternoon. Instead I’ve done admin and walked Merlin in the field so he could run off some of his seemingly endless energy. He’s now lying next to me happily asleep under a blanket.

We ate the first of this year’s forced rhubarb this evening.
