Over the Horizon

Central coast

Jenn and I made a day out of simple pleasures; eating, walking, beach lounging, drinking, laughing. Visiting a distant pier at Avila Beach. Walking the gangplanks past a motley assortment of fishermen, tourists, and barking sea lions. Treating ourselves to the most delicious fresh seafood at the fish market. Steamed clams, local caught halibut fish tacos, dungess crabs picked out ourselves, and a pint of beer...Yup, Jenn knows me all too well. And it doesn't get much better than that for me :) Sitting there cracking crabs and sipping on a brew, catching up with my best friend and looking out at a quite bay of the Pacific as Pelicans dive amongst the bait schools in the distance and the barking of harbor seals floats over the water...

Spending the rest of the afternoon walking along the coast and lounging on the beach. Sitting back to people watch the plethora of faces here to see and be seen, everyone from beach bikini babes to Mexican farm workers and their families out for the weekend with everything in between. We finished the day off with crab enchiladas and margaritas at a spot off route 101 just as the fog began to roll in off the ocean closing the scene on another fine day.

I was trying to capture the action in this photo, intentionally cutting off Jenn's face to focus on the scene around us. Jenn's hands in the action of cracking crabs, bowls of clams and beer cups littering the newspaper, a glimpse of bike tires poking out of the side, and a backdrop of fishing boats floating still in the deep blue of the bay all framed by the low hills melting down to meet the Pacific.
