Oyez,Oyez,Oyez !( Hear ye,Hear ye,Hear ye.)

These were the words that rang out across Fortrose at 1pm today as the town crier announced the start of St Boniface Fair. This fair originates as a medieval fair and has been revived over the past few years and is held on the 2nd Thursday of August.
The event starts with a parade through the High street to the Cathedral square with stall holders dressed in 'Medieval costume ' following a piper and town crier.
Along the square, with the Cathedral as a backdrop , there are many colourful stalls laden with home produce and crafts. Today there was an artist creating portraits in charcoal for free and a food stall with a queue a mile long.
An art exhibition is held in the St Peter and Boniface Church. some lovely water colours of local views, embroidery pictures and pottery were on view.
The piper climbed the steps of the Chapter House where she played a number of Scottish tunes. Several people were having a jig on the Cathedral greens. The weather helped as we had glorious sunshine.
St Boniface founded the first Cathedral in Ross at Rosemarkie in the 7th Centenary which he dedicated to St Peter. Some traditions say that St Boniface invented the Christmas tree.
There was quite a crowd and a happy buzz.
