Back in 1970 a new WI opened in our village and I was elected president! . It was so exciting, being in at the beginning. The membership rose to 100 in a very short while, and it has remained a successful WI in the years since. We entered a National WI Of the Year competition, and won! WI has been a big part of my life for all these years
In recent years new WIs have opened in the village and they have attracted younger people. We have got steadily older until the present committee decided we could no longer carry on. So sad, after being so successful, but it was inevitable.
Last night we had our last meeting.We had a buffet supper and wine and archives were available for everyone to see. We had a huge cake which I was invited to cut., and I made a speech. Imagine my delight when they presented me with the silver presidents’ badge. I shall cherish it.
