Stuff and Nonsense

Avocet #37

We spent a large part of what was a lovely day, at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands. We had not been since before Christmas and were pleasantly surprised to find the approach road had been covered in tarmac.  Yay, no more potholes!
Overall we saw 54 species, but no new year ticks as the Bittern and Green Woodpecker remained sadly out of sight.
I had a good catch-up with fellow blipper kwchas, who volunteers at BMW,  mainly talking about holidays and why the recently opened cafe there was now closed.
He first caught up with us at the screen nearest the visitor centre where there were quite a few people watching a distant female kingfisher who was balancing nicely on the reeds. We both took a few pictures, but I'll leave him to blip her as I've blipped a kingfisher this year already. You can see my effort in extras along with a buzzard that we encountered when we visited Burton Marsh for a late lunch at Net's cafe.

My main blip is of the beautiful avocet, the symbol of the RSPB, of which there were over 100 birds across the site apparently. Such elegant birds.
